General Information for Salamina
Salamina - being the closest in proximity - is little more than a suburb of the sprawling capital. Its long history - along with the other islands' role in the Persian wars - attracts many history buffs, since the most significant naval battle between the Greeks and the Persians. This battle took place in the strait of Salamis, the year 480 B.C. and many historians still study the strategy used in the famous naval battle of Salamis. The island today is victimized by the industrial pollution, therefore, visitors frequent places like: Kanakia, Peristeria, Ghiala and the pine forest which starts in Moukli up to the monastery of Aghiou Nikolaou.
