| The greatest asset for Fokida is its proximity
to Athens. Delphi (appr. 115 miles) is one of the biggest tourist
attractions and hundreds of thousands visit the spectacular archeological
locale. The shores of the Corinthian Gulf, along with numerous hills,
offer the capital of the nome, Amfissa, and its inhabitants, enjoyable
excursions all year round. |
The old neutical town of Galaxidi
beautifies the entire nome and zealously preserves its traditional
charm. Equally picturesque are the mountainous villages on top of
lush slopes. Amfissa the capital is a town with many interests
and antiquities. |
It is a historical town and, according to myth again, took its name from
Amfissa, the grand-daughter of Aiolos/Aeolus, the god of the winds. |
