| The largest island of the group forming a small archipelago in the heart of the Aegean. It is the ideal place for relaxation and deep-sea fishing.
Although fishing should be avoided now, since fish is constantly
decreases and the Mediterranean seal - which is in the verge of
extinction - needs approximately fifty pounds of fish (each) every
day. Lovely Alonissos offers idyllic shores, many caves and
it is a haven for the Mediterranean seal Monachous-Monachous.
Driven away from all other parts of the Mediterranean, the seal, has found refuge feeling safe in the rocky shores, uninhabited isles and caves. |
Besides the seal, the dolphins, the Aegean
gull, the falcon and other species are protected here. The visitor
to Alonissos feels close to nature and its creatures. Nearby the island
there are smaller isles: Kyra-Panayia; Yioura; Piperi; Pappous;
Peristeria and Skantzouras.
The old capital of the island, Alonissos, built on a hill, gives you the impression of a painting. The houses starting from the top - adjoining one another - form a wall coming down the slope. |
Interesting outskirts: Votsi; Kokinokastro; Georgi Yialos;
Steni Vala; among others.
Seashores: At Pateteri-Roussoum Yialos; Votsi; Plakes; Meghali Mourtia;
Yiala and by boat you could reach even more.
