General Information for Serifos
The island according to mythology, is identified with Perseus (the mythical hero who killed the fearful Medusa). Legend has it that he arrived there as an infant inside a box. It is an attractive island, since the green color compliments a cycladic island enormously. When you approach the port, you are immediately struck by the most impressive and most characteristic image of Chora/Hora clambering on a steep rock, while bare rippled mountaints are punctuated with small fertile plains that end up in small bays. The few villages are like a flowless painting. The peculiar-shaped rocks resemble human figures which resurrect the myth of the prehistoric inhabitants of the island who were petrified by Medusa.

Another attraction is the monastery of Taxiarhon near the village, Ghalani. The greatest appeal of the island, however, are the enchanting shores: Megha Livathi, Koutalas, Aghios Sostis, Psili Ammos, Aghios Ioannis, Sykamia, Kalo Ampeli.

The unique ambience of the island is continually attracting more and more visitors, who enjoy a placid vacation but with many depictions of a place that has a lot to offer.

Surrounding villages:
Livathi the lovely picturesque port; Pyrgos and Ghalani; The Mone/Monastery Taxiarhon looks from far like an impregnable castle; Koutalas a village without permanent residents, from here you visit the Cyclop Cave with stalactites and stalagmites.

Where to eat?
Next to the bus station there is a good taverna Petros; the superb Theofilos Taverna of the Serifos Beach Hotel among others. Tavernas and ouzeries in Livathi, Koutalas, Meghalo Livathi, Chora and Sykamia.
