| If the rhythms of cosmopolitan Paros
are too intense for you, escape- just a mile west- to the picturesque
small isle of Antiparos. Linked with frequent ferry boats and little
boats from Paroikia and Pounta, this lovely islet offers physical
beauty, golden-sand beaches and the well-known Cave of Antiparos,
promising a quiet, restful vacation close to nature away from the
noise and crowds.
The ferry-boat from Pounta or the small boat from Paroikia will bring you (in just 10 minutes) to the scenic port with the two piers small hotels and tavernas lined up on the quay, while walking towards the center there is the main street that takes you to a pretty plateia. |
This is Kastro, the capital of
Antiparos, which is spread along the main road leading from the harbour
- with the transparent waters and countless fishing caiques and rowing
boats - to the lovely main plateia/square. At the southeast side of
the isle, there is the famous Cave on the Hill of St John (Aghios
Ioannis) with awesome stalactites and stalagmites decorating its interior.
You go down countless steps that take you to the various chambers.
While in the island you could visit (by bus) the coastal settlement
of Aghios Georghios, in the Despotiko Cave, along with
the smaller settlement Soros. |
Between Paros and Antiparos there is a small isle Saliagos, where a Neolithic settlement (4500-3500 BC) - one of the oldest in Greece - was found.
North of the island, opposite the islet Diplo, other beautiful
beaches await you: Psaraliki, Sifneikos Yialos, Aghios Spyridon.
Kaloudia is a pretty sandy shore with shallow waters, ideal
for children.
The thing that impresses you in Antiparos is the simplicity of its inhabitants, who without having any special training in public relations and in the tourism related field, run the family businesses trying to do their very best to please the visitor. You truly relax in this peaceful and serene place.
