The Museum The Archaeological Museum contains some outstanding sculptures such as the Victor of Paioniou 420 BC, the marble statue of Hermes of Praxiteles, a sculptured Head of Hera. The eastern pediment shows the chariot race between Pelops and Oinomaos, the west pediment depicts the fight between the Centaurs and Lapiths and the metopes depict the Twelve Labours of Heracles.Modern Olympia is lined with restaurants, cafeterias and tourist shops catering for the bus loads of tourists. |
