Rentals
Car: Available at car rental agencies. All authorised car rental agencies must display the G.N.T.O. sign. Rates range from 30 euros per day and upward, depending on the type of the rented car.
You must own a valid driver's license in order to rent a car or motorcycle. If you plan to visit islands or villages you better have to hire a car or a motorcycle because there public transport will limit your choices a lot because. It is a must to have insurance; also an international driver's license is needed.
Always make sure that the car you are renting is insured against theft, fire, accidents etc.
Taxi
Taxis are equipped with meters that display the charges. Taxi drivers are required to start the meter every time they pick up a passenger. Rates must be displayed in every taxi on a valid price chart that includes an analysis of meter charges and all the extra charges off the meter. In some islands or villages the taxis have fixed prices from one place to another, so there is no meter. Check out the price-list before you get in and don't let any driver trick you.

Temperature
Bring comfortable shoes, a sweater, clothes you can layer, and an all-weather coat. It tends to get very hot in summer. Especially in the islands be careful because during night the weather conditions change a bit and it gets colder.
About tipping in restaurants it 's a matter of personal choice. Although normally a bill includes a service charge, it is customary to tip in restaurants and other places that cater to tourists.
Don't forget to change time at your watch the time zone is GMT: +2
Watch out
  • Whenever possible make sure there is a good and solid lock on your door.
  • If you are travelling with valuables, leave them in the hotel safe.
  • Find which areas the locals consider risky and try to stay away, if you really want to visit them, do it in a group.
  • Carry small amounts of cash. Replace cash with Traveller's Cheques, which once signed, are refundable if lost or stolen.
