 Greek Cuisine
It is unforgivable for any visitor in Greece not to taste the Greek cuisine. It’s common knowledge that Greek food is not low on fat at all, therefore any traveller should be careful on the quantities he will consume.
Restaurant and tavern food tends to be very simple, rarely involving sauces but with full use of local olive oil and charcoal grills.

Salads

In Greece you will find a great variety of tastes from salads and appetizers to meat and pastries. Some of the salads you should try are: Melitzanosalata - eggplant salad, Tzatziki - cucumber dip with garlic, Greek Salad - really different from what restaurants outside Greece offer,
Taramosalata - fish roe salad in two varieties, Skordalia - garlic sauce.

Sea Food

If you visit any Greek island don’t forget to have some sea food. The great thing in Greek islands is that you can have fresh fish in really reasonable and low prices. So you can have fish baked or fried, or the really tasty Kakavia - fish soup. For fish you should try Bakaliaro Skordalia – fried cod with garlic sauce, and any fresh fish that restaurants and taverns will provide. Apart from these, you can have Octapus or Kalamari (squid) grilled, boiled or with tomato sauce and shrimps.

Pasta

For the pasta-lovers there are two unique traditional courses: Pastitsio - baked macaroni with minced meat and béchamel and Yuvetsi - macaroni baked with meat.

Meat

Greek cuisine has a lot of courses with meat or poultry to offer. The traditional Souvlaki with beef or chicken, Fricase - lamb with lettuce, or pork with celery - a similar course for those who are not fond of lamb, Stifado - veal stew with onions, you can also try stifado with rabbit instead of veal. In addition there is a great variety of courses with minced meat. First of all the well known Mousaka which has become a logo of Greek cuisine. Apart you can have: Lahanodolmades - cabbage rolls or Dolmadakia - grapevine leaves stuffed with minced meat, Papoutsakia - stuffed aubergines, and Yemista - tomatoes and peppers stuffed with rice or minced meat (it depends on the location you are).

Vegetarian

Now if you are a vegetarian you should not worry about your nutrition because Greece has to offer a lot of courses with vegetables. Aginares A la Polita - artichokes with olive oil, carrots and potatoes, Briam - baked summer vegetables, Melitzanes tiganites - fried aubergines, Kolokithakia - fried or boiled zucchini.
